What Pages Does Every Small Business Website Need?
More pages is not better websites. A small business site needs a small set of pages, each with a clear job. Here is the set, and what to skip.
The essential pages
1. Home. The front door and the primary conversion page. Clear offer, proof, one action. Its design is, walks through it in [ How to Build a Website That Generates Leads.
2. Services (one page per main service). A page per service, written for the person searching for that service, beats one generic "Our Services" page every time. It converts better and ranks better, because Google can match a specific page to a specific search.
3. About. Who you are, why you, the faces behind the business. Local customers especially buy from people, and this page carries surprising conversion weight when it is honest.
4. Contact. Every path to you: form, phone, email, address, hours, map. Make the phone number prominent and tappable.
5. Service area or locations. Where you work, named plainly. This is also the foundation of local search visibility, the full walkthrough is in [ How Local SEO and Website Design Work Together.
6. Reviews or proof. A dedicated page for testimonials and results, linked from everywhere.
7. Legal. Privacy policy and terms. Required by form providers and ad platforms, and it signals legitimacy.
Worth adding when they apply
FAQ, for the questions that repeat (also good material for AI assistants, see How to Use AI to Answer Customer Questions). Pricing or a pricing guide, which pre-qualifies leads and reduces tire-kicker calls. Gallery or projects, for visual trades. Blog, when you will actually maintain it.
The pages to skip
"Our Team" with stock bios, "History" with a founding myth nobody reads, a separate page for every tiny service variation, and news pages that never get news. Every page needs a job; if it has none, it dilutes the site and adds maintenance.
The structural rule
However many pages you have, every one of them needs: a clear job, one primary action, and a path back to the main conversion page. A visitor should never be more than one click from becoming a customer.
The starting set
For most service businesses: Home, 3 to 6 service pages, About, Contact, Service Area, Reviews, Privacy. That is 8 to 11 pages, and it beats a 40-page site that nobody navigates.
