10 Reasons Your Business Website Isn't Converting
When a website gets traffic but no inquiries, the cause is almost always on this list. Find yours, fix it, and the same traffic starts producing leads.
1. The headline says nothing
"Quality service you can trust" could describe anyone. A visitor must know within seconds what you do and for whom. The fix and the formula are in How to Build a Website That Generates Leads.
2. No proof anywhere
No reviews, no photos of real work, no names. Skeptical visitors (all of them) leave. Fix: real testimonials with names and cities, near every call to action.
3. The call to action is weak or buried
"Learn More" is not an action, and below the fold is invisible. Fix: one specific, visible action per page: "Get a Free Estimate."
4. The site is slow
Slow sites shed visitors before they read anything. Benchmarks and fixes in How Fast Should a Business Website Load?
5. The form is an interrogation
Eight required fields kills completion. Fix: three fields, then qualify in the follow-up.
6. Mobile is an afterthought
Half your visitors are on phones. If the number is not tappable or the buttons are tiny, they leave. Test it on your own phone.
7. No answer to "why you?"
Every visitor silently asks why they should choose you over the last three sites they visited. If the answer is nowhere, they default to price or leave. Fix: your actual differentiators, stated plainly, with proof.
8. The follow-up leaks
Sometimes conversion fails after the form: inquiries answered hours later or never. The fix is a response system, walks through it in [ How to Automate Lead Follow-Up for Your Business.
9. The design looks untrustworthy
Dated design, stock photos, broken elements, and typos all read as "this business is not doing well." Visitors transfer that read to your service quality. Fix: a clean, current site; it does not have to be fancy, it has to be coherent.
10. You are measuring the wrong thing
Judging the site by visits instead of inquiries hides the problem. Fix: track visitors, inquiries, and conversion rate monthly, and check traffic quality, the full walkthrough is in [ Why Your Business Website Isn't Generating Leads.
